Bollywood legend to gain India highest award

Legendary Bollywood star is set to receive India’s highest film honor.

Legendary Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan is set to receive India’s highest film honor.

The iconic figure in India cinema will be honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the country’s  Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar announced in the social media.

"The legend Amitabh Bachchan, who entertained and inspired for two generations, has been selected unanimously for Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The entire country and international community is happy. My heartiest congratulations to him," the post reads.

The award will be presented to the actor in New Dehhi during a national awards ceremony at a date yet to be confirmed.

Bachchan celebrates his 50th year in cinema this year, following his 1969 debut. His filmography includes more 200 films with his 70s and 80s works representing the peak of his acting career.

This is not his first notable honor as Bachchan received France's highest civilian honor, the Knight of the Legion of Honor in 2007.
